Ever
wanted to learn a beautiful new art form,
be part of a busy but fun performing company
and keep fit at the same time? Then read
on...
Bharatanatyam is an ancient South Indian
dance form, the practice of which exercises
both body and mind. It is characterised
by athletic footwork, dramatic expression,
beautiul hand gestures and opulent costumes.
We are a very relaxed and friendly all
women group (we apologise to male dancers
who may feel discriminated against), and
we value good attitude and enthusiasm more
than a knowledge of Indian dancing. You
do not have to
have any dancing experience, but it helps
if you have some experience of performance.
We are a busy, performing group, and are
often booked upto a year in advance and
because of this, we require a minimum committment
of 2
years, to make the training worthwhile.
The minumum age for joining the group is
20 yrs, but we will consider younger ladies
with Bharatanatyam experience.
The group is run like a co- operative.
You do not have to pay fees. Tuition, (once
a week on Tuesdays at the UEA from 7.30
pm-10 pm) jewellery and costumes are provided
in exchange for a committment to do all
the gigs that we are booked for and attending
all the rehearsals. Please note that we
do not stop in the school holidays, but
we do understand that holidays may be taken
at this time.
If you would like to come along and try
a class, (with no obligation to join), please
contact Anne on 01603 504941 or email anne@saffronpage.com
There are no auditions, but we will evaluate
your suitability for the group, and provide
full feedback if you are not chosen. Please
note that the group has a finite capacity
and requests to join are treated on a 'first
come-first served' basis. |
