Sri Rama tells the story of Rama, the righteous and noble prince of Ayodya and his epic struggle against evil. Rama’s step mother, Kaykeyi, successfully plots to have Rama exiled, so that her own son Barata can be crowed the king. When Barata discovers the plot and hears that his beloved Rama has been exiled for fourteen years in the forest, he goes to the forest and pleads with Rama to come back and claim the throne. Rama says that in doing so, he would be disrespecting the wishes of his step mother and that he has made a happy life for himself and his wife Sita, in the forest and chooses to remain there.
A disconsolate and humble Barata asks Rama for his shoes, that they may govern the kingdom in Rama’s absence, as he does not feel worthy of the crown. Moved by his brother’s humility, Rama agrees and Barata returns to Ayodya a happier person.
In the meantime, the evil ten-headed demon Ravana, whose marriage proposal was rejected by Sita, is planning revenge. He abducts Sita from the forest and takes her to his kingdom in Sri Lanka. Rama, with the help of the monkey god Hanuman and his monkey army defeats Ravana and rescues Sita. Their time in exile over, Rama and Sita, triumphantly return to the kingdom of Ayodya and Rama is crowned the king.
